JkDefragGUI - GUI Tabs - System

The system tab allows you to install Pagedefrag from Sysinternal. Pagedefrag uses advanced techniques to provide you what commercial defragmenters cannot: the ability for you to defragment your paging files and registry hives. In addition, it defragments event log files and Windows 2000/XP hibernation files (where system memory is saved when you hibernate a laptop).  The current version (when this help file was written the current version is 2.32) of Pagedefrag from Sysinternals does not support Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 2008 nor X64 OS.

The statement above from Sysinternals is not completely true. You can built a BartPE disk and add the JkDefragGUI plug-in which can be created with the /BartPE commandline parameter. Defragment your hard disk from outside your operating system and the above files will also be defragmented.

When the JkDefragGUI is started for the first time pagedefrag is not available until it's downloaded from the Microsoft site. During startup there will be a question if you want to download Pagedefrag. You can select yes, no or cancel. Selecting yes will download and install Pagedefrag options in JkDefragGUI. When no is pressed there will be no more questions if you want to download Pagedefrag. See the FAQ section how to reset this. Selecting cancel will ask you the question again after restarting JkDefragGUI.
