7. Can you give me some tips before running defragmentation

  1. Cleanup old junk from your hard disk before running defragmentation
  2. Reboot before defragmentation. This will release files that are in use, so they can be defragged.
  3. Stop your realtime virus scanner before running defragmentation. Virus scanners check all disk activity, making defragmentation and optimization very slow.
  4. Move the swapfile to another volume, reboot, defragment, and move the swapfile back. If you don't have a second volume then temporarily make the swapfile small, for example 100Mb.
  5. If an application (for example a database) prevents certain files from being defragged then stop the application, run defragmentation for the particular data directory only, and restart the application.

9. After using the wash function there is no harddisk space left, what's wrong ?

The wash function fills the harddisk with garbage and when there is no space left the garbage will be removed. Sometimes the file with garbage which is stored in the root of the harddisk cannot be removed. The file is called MyDefragPowerGUI_Eraser.tmp and can be safely deleted from the harddisk. This problem can be caused by virusscanners, low system resources and even by an ordinary reboot (automatic updates for example) during the wash function.

12. Why can't i select Registry Omtimization on Windows 7 or Windows 2008 ?

NTRegOpt 1.1j and below can give an error when run on Windows 7 or Windows 2008. Lars Hederer is going to create a new version of NTRegOpt to prevent this error in the Feature. MyDefragPowerGUI checks the version of NTRegOpt, if a newer version is found Registry Optimization will be available again.

13. Can i replace the internal sound with my own sound/music ?

You can use Wav files and MP3 files, just rename them to finished.wav or finished.mp3 and place it into a folder named "sounds". If there is no sounds folder, just create one in the same folder as MyDefragPowerGUI.exe. MyDefragPowerGUI first checks for the file finished.wav and if it does not exist it will check for finished.mp3. If none found it will use the internal sound.
